Boiler conversions
Upgrade your whole heating setup, not just the boiler
A boiler conversion means changing the type of heating system in your home, not just replacing the boiler. The most common conversion is moving from a regular boiler, with tanks in the loft and a cylinder in the airing cupboard, to a modern combi or system boiler.
Done properly, a conversion can free up space, improve water pressure and make your heating more efficient. It is a bigger job than a like-for-like swap, so we survey your home first, explain exactly what is involved and give you a clear, fixed quote before any work starts.
- Homes with old loft tanks you want removed
- Freeing up an airing cupboard
- Improving shower pressure
- Modernising an older heating system
Ideal & Vaillant accreditedConversions
Popular conversions we carry out
Regular to combi
Remove the loft tanks and cylinder and fit a compact combi boiler. Ideal for smaller homes wanting more space.
Regular to system
Remove the loft tanks and fit a system boiler with an unvented cylinder for strong hot water to every bathroom.
System to combi
Remove the cylinder and switch to a combi when your household no longer needs stored hot water.
Honest advice
Is a conversion right for you?
We will always recommend what is genuinely best for your home, even if that means a different type of boiler.
The benefits
- Frees up loft and cupboard space
- Better water pressure from mains-fed hot water
- A more efficient, modern heating system
- Removes old tanks that can leak or freeze
- Fewer components to maintain over time
Things to consider
- More work than a like-for-like swap, usually two to three days
- Older radiators or joints may need replacing at the higher pressure
- A combi conversion may not suit homes with several bathrooms

FAQs
Boiler Conversions: your questions answered
What is involved in a boiler conversion?
We survey your home, then remove the old boiler and any tanks or cylinder no longer needed, cap off redundant pipework, update the pipework, gas supply, flue and condensate where required, clean the system, and fit and commission the new boiler. The work is notified under Building Regulations through Gas Safe.
How long does a boiler conversion take?
Most conversions take two to three days, depending on the type of conversion and the pipework in your home. We will confirm the timescale with your quote.
Will my old radiators cope with a pressurised system?
Combi and system boilers run at a higher pressure than open-vented systems. During the survey we check your radiators, valves and pipework, and let you know if anything should be replaced to avoid leaks.
Is a conversion more expensive than a like-for-like replacement?
Usually, yes, because there is more pipework and removal involved. We give you a clear, fixed quote after the survey so there are no surprises, and finance is available to spread the cost.
Should I convert to a combi or a system boiler?
A combi suits smaller homes with one main bathroom and good mains pressure. A system boiler with an unvented cylinder suits homes with two or more bathrooms. We will recommend the right option for your household.
Will I get space back?
Yes. Converting removes the tanks from your loft, and a combi conversion also frees up the airing cupboard where the cylinder used to be.
